"I see a number of organizations trying to use Web 2.0 and social networking tools as a platform for informal learning and running into two main points of frustration. First, although most Web 2.0 applications are free; setting up Wikis and blogs and capturing informal learning exchanges often results in creating new, segregated content silos, completely separate and distinct from formal learning. Secondly, learners usually have to leave the structured learning environment in order to engage in informal learning.
The cool thing about FlockPod is that it can be embedded inside other training applications, so that informal learning runs parallel with structured learning. The primary interface for collaboration floats on top of primary learning and learners can even set the transparency of their own FlockPod. In addition, informal learning content such as links, debate items, etc. are searchable from within the structured learning as well. FlockPod defines a whole new standard for making informal learning accessible on demand, creating a new classification for informal learning tools."
